Paul Bricker was a Head Basketball Coach for 24 years,
serving eighteen years at Middle Point, five years at Lima Shawnee and one
at Crestview (Convoy - Union). His teams won 318 and loss 116, for a winning
percentage of 73.3%
Paul graduated from Arcadia High School and Findlay College, where he was an
outstanding football and basketball player. He received a Master's Degree
from Bowling Green State University. His wife, Mary Ruth, passed away last
year. They have one daughter, Jean Gavin, a grandson, Richard and a
granddaughter, Libbey. In the community he was active as a Mason in The
Christian Scientist Church.
Coach Bricker's teams won eleven League, nine Sectional and three District
championships, advancing to the Regionals in 1943. During his career he won
116 league games and olost just 21. He was president of the Ohio High School
Baseball Coaches Association in 1962-63; Coach of the Year in the State five
times in basketball and Coach of the Year eight time in the Lima area.
Coach Bricker was an outstanding disciplinarian. He demanded and gained the
respect of his players. Paul never stressed winning when working with his
teams but always expected their best at all times. When his grandson,
Richard, was young he brought him into his home to live with them. As a
coach in a smaller school, he coached the teams at all levels and thus
coached Richard as a fifth and sixth grader. As a teacher, Paul taught
Spanish and history. He later became principal. |
