JANE POEPPELMAN, FORT LORAMIE
1998 RECIPIENT
Through
the course of coaching, motivate players to learn the game, play with
teamwork, have fun, and experience success.
Four years after graduating from Fort Loramie High School in
1967, Coach Poeppelman returned to her alma mater to attain one of her goals.
She wanted to start an interscholastic athletic program for girls at Fort
Loramie. She had just graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1971 and
implemented the girls program at Fort Loramie High School. Her teams at Fort
Loramie were noted for their sound fundamentals and tough defensive play. During
her career they were one of the most successful girls teams in the State.
Coach Poeppelman was very active in the OHSBCA, serving
several years as an officer in District 9. She has the distinction of being the
first female Girls Coach to be inducted into the OHSBCA Hall of Fame.
Jane's teams had eight twenty-wins seasons, with a winning
rate of 74.8% over 22 seasons. In 1991, she was chosen as a coach of the
North-South All-Star Game. Her record included eleven league championships in
the always tough Shelby County League, seven years as District Champions, and
two years runner-ups in the regionals, 1979 and 1991.
Her other coaching duties at Fort Loramie included volleyball
for three years (league champions in 1972 and 1973); boys golf 1978-1981 and
1995-1997, co-coach of girls golf, 1995 and 1996 (state qualifiers, 1996); and
track 1972-1974.
She has been active with her community and professional
organizations. She is a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church; G.Y.M.;
American Legion Auxiliary; Delta Kappa Gamma Education Sorority; Ohio
Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance; President of
the Fort Loramie Education Association, and longtime member of the OHSBCA.
Coach Poeppelman's immediate family includes her mother,
Germaine; two sisters, Elaine (Doug) Hausfield and Mag (Dale) Dues, and two
brothers, Richard and Kenneth.
